BRGM – French Geological Survey

The BRGM is France’s public reference institution for Earth Science applications for the management of surface and subsurface resources and risks. With over 1000 staff including more than 700 engineers and researchers, the BRGM is the largest geological survey in Europe. Its activities are geared to innovative scientific research, support to public policy development and international cooperation. The BRGM aims to meet key challenges for society, particularly those related to climate change, energy transition and the development of the circular economy. For eLi, the BRGM provides lithium experts about ore deposits, isotope geochemistry, geochemical modeling, ore processing, life cycle and market analysis. The BRGM will chair and promote the Exploration and Mining platform.

Competences

  • Li metallogeny and exploration (mineral prospectivity, ore targeting, exploration, ore characterization)
  • Geochemistry and Li isotopes analyses
  • Hydrogeology, geothermal energy, reactive fluid transfer & modelling
  • Market and use (criticality assessment, MFA, circular economy)
  • Sustainable mineral processing and recycling options (raw material & waste treatment, process modeling, simulation and optimization, coupling LCA and process simulation, LCA indicators)

Role in eLi

Coordination of the platform “Exploration and Mining”
